Forecast for the Southern Lakes and Central Otago for today is for early morning low cloud partially clearing and longer sunny intervals prevailing by this afternoon. Light southeastertly breezes prevailing. Cloud may increase again this evening and possibly some scattered rain developing about and north of Wanaka. Mild temperatures.
Forecast upper level winds for today at 1000 metres southeasterly 30 kph developing this evening. At 2000 metres light southeasterly. Freezing level about 3000 metres.
Tomorrow cloudy skies with scattered rain, more particularly in eastern areas. Light to moderate southeasterly winds gradually tending west to southwesterly by later in the day. Mild temperatures but becoming cooler by evening.
Friday cloudy with scattered showers continuing and possibly light snow on the tops. Fresh westerly winds, strong in exposed areas. Cool temperatures.
Saturday a few scattered showers at first with snow lowering further on the mountains. Westerly winds, strong at times, turning more southwesterly during the day. The weather becoming fine by afternoon.

Queenstown is located in the South Island of New Zealand sits 310m (1,017ft) above sea level at latitude 45 degrees south and longitude 169 degrees west. Being an alpine environment weather in Queenstown can change at anytime of year. Summer has long warm days with temperatures that can reach 30°C while winters are cold with temperatures often in single digits with frequent snowfall. As with the rest of Central Otago, Queenstown lies within the rain shadow of the Southern Alps, but being closer to the west coast the town is more susceptible to rain-bearing fronts compared to nearby Cromwell, Wanaka and Alexandra.Seasons
